Joint work between UNACEM, residents, and the district municipality
We improved and refurbished the Plaza de Armas de Virgen de Lourdes in Villa María del Triunfo
- This is the third VMT park improvement project in which UNACEM has participated and with which it aims to benefit more than 5,000 local residents.
- The recent work included the general fencing of the park, improvement of the lighting, new kerbs, amphitheater, swimming pool and a children’s play area, among others.
- This space will also allow for activities promoted by UNACEM in coordination with the community, such as modern dance sessions, Tai Chi for the elderly, recycling for children, and other community-oriented activities.
Lima, June 2022.- The Plaza de Armas de Virgen de Lourdes (VdL), in Villa María del Triunfo (VMT), was refurbished for the benefit of its more than 3 thousand monthly visitors, thanks to a joint effort by cement company UNACEM, the Central Board of VdL and the district municipality, to improve the quality of life of its neighbors, optimize air quality and provide an adequate space for recreation and family leisure.
This is the third park in Villa María del Triunfo that UNACEM has helped to improve, to the benefit of more than 5 000 people, with contributions to social infrastructure, tree planting and education for local people, working together with them. This time, the work included painting in general, the supply and installation of benches, drainage for the amphitheater, refurbishment of playground equipment and new lighting, among other things.
Mr Iván Ayquipa, secretary general of the Central Board of Virgen de Lourdes marginal settlement, highlighted the positive impact of these spaces on the lives of his neighbors. “The park has been abandoned for many years. We have tried to recover this space on our own. We need an adequate recreational area for all families,” he said.
Eleonora León y León, executive director of Asociación UNACEM, highlighted the value that the company wishes to add to the community through these initiatives. “Parks are public spaces that encourage family activities and contribute to the physical and psychological well-being and social integration of neighbors. For this reason, UNACEM is committed to projects that, like this one, improve the quality of life of hundreds of families,” she explained.
In order to rehabilitate green areas, UNACEM donated topsoil, succulent plants, trees, shrubs and bags of guano. In addition, the work involved personnel from Asociacion UNACEM, the residents of Virgen de Lourdes and the district municipality. The Plaza de Armas was inaugurated on June 14.
This rehabilitation enables the company to promote, in partnership with social organizations, free outdoor demonstration workshops to encourage sports and healthy recreation and to address issues that strengthen families and healthy coexistence. Last month, Tai chi and modern dance classes were offered, while recycling workshops for children and talks on healthy eating for parents are planned for July.
This work, and that previously carried out in Parque de la Amistad (Tablada de Lurin) and Parque Inca Pachacutec (Av. Pachacútec) are clear demonstrations that company-community partnerships are the right path to local sustainability. Thus, UNACEM reaffirms its commitment to improving sustainable environments that provide a better quality of life for its neighbors.
