Cement Factory published its 2022 Integrated Report

On the road to sustainable production: UNACEM Peru reduced its CO2 emissions and reached the highest production levels in its history

  • The company reduced its emissions in tons of CO2-eq by 2.7% while producing and dispatching more than 6.6 million tons during 2022.
  • The plant reduced its electrical energy consumption by 3.4% and more than 90% of electricity used was clean energy.

Lima, July 2023.- UNACEM Peru, a company producing cement and clinker, released its 2022 Integrated Report, containing its environmental, social and economic performance, the main milestones and achievements of the year, and the projects that will allow it to continue consolidating its position in Peru.

Thus, during 2022, UNACEM Peru achieved a turnover of S/. 2,655 million, an increase of 20% compared with 2021. In addition, the company reached a milestone this past year with the highest production and dispatch levels in its history, amounting to 6.6 million tons, due to its environmental performance, commercial management and adaptability to its customers’ needs.

The report highlights UNACEM’s commitment to surrounding communities and the environment, which is reflected in the results obtained. This is evidence of the company’s commitment to prioritizing carbon neutrality by 2050 in order to reduce CO2eq emissions from its operations and products. In this regard it achieved a 2.7% reduction in CO2eq emissions per ton of cement in 2022.

“At UNACEM we believe in being able to continue maintaining and improving our performance in the long term, without losing sight of our commitment to the sustainability of our country and achieving carbon neutrality for our operations by 2050″, says Eduardo Sanchez, General Manager of UNACEM Peru.

Similarly, as far as the use of renewable energy is concerned, more than 90% of electricity consumed came from renewable sources, while natural gas comprises 70% of our fuel matrix. The company also revealed that by 2022 it had achieved a 3.4% reduction in electricity consumption.

As for social management, the report stated that more than 130,000 people benefited from social investment projects. In addition, the company provided a total of approximately 14 thousand hours of training to enhance the skills of its employees.
