Double champion of race walking
Recognition for Kimberly García
Lima, July 2022.- The Peruvian race-walking athlete and medalist took part in a reception prepared by UNACEM to celebrate the two gold medals she obtained recently at the Oregon 2022 World Athletics Championships, in the 20 Km and 35 Km race walking categories.
During the event, which was also attended by Claudia Rivero, UNACEM Head of Marketing, Gabriel Barrio, THE COMPANY’S deputy commercial manager, Federico Tong Hurtado, executive director of the Pan American and Parapan American Games Special Legacy Project, Kimberly received a symbolic gift from UNACEM in recognition of the effort and perseverance that have led her to obtain the first two gold medals for Peru in a world athletics event.

Achievements as significant as that in the recent World Athletics Championship, reaffirm our commitment to promoting sport, both professional and amateur, among the children and youth of our country, improving their preparation and training conditions“, said Gabriel Barrio.
Kimberly Garcia’s sports career to date includes several achievements, including the silver medal at the Pan American Race-Walking Championship (2017) and being the first Peruvian to qualify for the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games. This was possible after she won the Pan American Race-Walking Cup in Mexico (2019), with a performance that qualified her for the Tokyo Olympics.
After winning the race-walking competition on July 22, Kimberly crowned her performance in the Oregon 2022 World Championships in Athletics by -in addition to winning two gold medals in the 35 km and 20 km events- breaking one South American and two national records for these two events.
In the coming months, Kimberly will be preparing for the South American Games 2022 in Asunción, Paraguay, held between October 1 and 15 this year. Her next step after this will be to evaluate her achievements and prepare for the Paris 2024 Olympic Games.
