UNACEM publishes its most recent sustainable management achievements in its Integrated Report 2021
Lima, August 2022.- UNACEM, a company specializing in the production of cement and clinker, published its Integrated Report 2021 (IR 2021), in line with company practice since 2005, to promote dialog and transparency and to inform its stakeholders of the results of its sustainable management efforts aligned with ESG (environmental, social and governance) criteria. It thus reports annually on its management to its various stakeholders.
As far as environmental management is concerned, the company has obtained a Blue Certificate from the National Water Authority (ANA) for responsible water management at its Condorcocha (Junín) and Atocongo (Lima) plants, and obtains more than 90% of its energy consumed from renewable sources.
In addition, the IR 2021 records that UNACEM received a Biodiversity Conservation Award for the Lomas de Quebrada Río Seco Private Conservation Area project, from the National Society of Mining, Petroleum and Energy (SNMPE), and managed to reuse more than 75% of the inorganic solid waste generated at its Condorcocha and Atocongo plants.
The report also points out a series of contributions to social management, including social infrastructure benefiting 66 000 people, consisting of 41 community projects built during 2021. The company has also helped to combat the effects of the COVID-19 pandemic by donating an oxygen plant in Villa María del Triunfo (Lima).
The IR 2021 is evidence of the transparency with which UNACEM has been reporting its progress in matters of sustainability for more than 15 years, as well as its efforts to make its business sustainable year after year, based on environmental, social and corporate governance objectives aligned with the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDG).
