As part of the agreement signed by both companies in July 2022
As part of the agreement signed by both companies in July last year, UNACEM and Alicorp deliver aid to 74 soup kitchens in Manchay
- The agreement involves assistance for the soup kitchens consisting of food donations, skills building and the construction of basic infrastructure.
- This effort began with food deliveries, which will benefit more than 5,500 residents of Manchay, Pachacámac, who are served by 74 soup kitchens in the district.
Lima, February 2023-. UNACEM and Alicorp, supported by Asociación UNACEM and ADRA, joined forces to assist 74 soup kitchens in Manchay, district of Pachacámac. Both companies have been working within the framework of an inter-institutional cooperation agreement since 2022, made feasible through the UNACEM Association, whose aim is to contribute with training, equipment and food for the soup kitchens as part of projects that both institutions are developing in Manchay.
Leaders of the soup kitchens belonging to the program were present during the deliveries and received food including pasta, oil, sauces, cookies and others. This first delivery will allow them to feed the more than 5,500 residents who benefit directly from Manchay’s soup kitchens, including children and the elderly.
Eleonora León y León, executive director of Asociación UNACEM, commented that “we are joining forces to promote the development of our neighboring populations through contributions to infrastructure and social welfare, thus achieving our aim of building a more sustainable world. We believe that together, Alicorp and UNACEM are stronger in our mission to support soup kitchens in the community and we know that this new program will add to the common effort”. She adds that last year alone, UNACEM helped with the construction of more than 50 communal projects in southern Lima and hopes through the alliance to promote new ones, working with social organizations of the soup kitchen beneficiaries.
Over the next few months UNACEM will announce the basic infrastructure improvements it will make in the kitchens, including floors, sinks and concrete bases, in order to improve conditions for preparing food.
For its part, Alicorp will add these 74 soup kitchens to its Ollas que Desarrollan initiative, which to date has been supporting more than 250 soup kitchens and benefiting more than 22,000 people in Lima and provinces such as Trujillo, Chiclayo, Piura, Cusco, Huancayo, Cajamarca, Apurímac and Arequipa. “This year, one of our objectives is to bring the program to more soup kitchens, for which we will continue to promote working jointly with other companies and organizations to bolster the country’s soup kitchens and make them into sustainable organizations”, said Patrick Huggard Caine, Alicorp’s Director of Sustainable Development.
Thanks to the alliances it has been building, “Ollas que Desarrollan” continues growing and has invited more individuals and companies to join it to support the country’s soup kitchens – social organizations that help thousands of Peruvian families every day of the week.
