Cemento Andino launches documentary as a tribute to master builders and their emblematic buildings
“Legado de un maestro” (A Master’s Legacy) is about the outstanding buildings that constitute a testimony to 3 master builders from Ayacucho and shows the impact they have had on the community.
Lima, November 2023 – In Peru, every construction project requires a variety of specific techniques and materials to achieve optimum performance. In addition to this, the master builder makes a fundamental contribution to the success of the principal buildings in the country.
To commemorate its commitment to master builders throughout the years, Cemento Andino launched “Legado de un maestro” (A Master’s Legacy), a documentary with contributions by 3 construction professionals who have completed emblematic buildings in the province of Ayacucho. This 10-minute video gives the history and career of each one, aimed at showing off their works and the impact they have had on their communities.
The documentary tells the story of Wilmer Mendoza Perez and his leadership in the construction of Huamanhura bridge. This master builder started in construction when he worked as an assistant surveyor for the Army. Now, thanks to Wilmer and his team, the Huamanguilla – Quinua road has a safe bridge from Huanta to the Vraem. “Now it (the bridge) is made of concrete, after so many years of just a timber bridge”.
Furthermore, Zósimo Edwin Allca Quispe tells us about the work that makes up his legacy: La Picota – Huascahura road, previously in poor condition, which ow provides the community with a “tourist corridor” worthy of the name. “When I finish a project, I feel immense happiness and satisfaction, because every construction has its peculiarities right from the start. So, when you’ve overcome those difficulties and finished, you can finally say: “I did it!”, says Mr Allca.
Finally, there is the story of Orlando Peña Gavilán, the master builder who built the first clinic in the city of Huanta, Ayacucho. His began in the trade thanks to his uncle, a master builder in the city of Huancayo. Today, with his experience and achievements, he has built a modern clinic in Huanta, providing the community with quick access to quality medical care while creating jobs. “When we’ve finished, we leave a building that provides people with a great service. (…) We feel very good. Families can now go to a medical center for treatment”, says Mr Peña.
In “Legado de un maestro”, Cemento Andino highlights the importance and resilience of each master builder, emphasizing their experience and the legacy that each one brings to their community. It also reflects their close connection with their families and how they are their main source of motivation at work. To view the documentary, please visit Cemento Andino’s YouTube account.
