Pilar Jáuregui: “With every win, I feel more committed to changing lives through sport”

Lima, November 2022.- The para-athlete and three-time Pan American Parabadminton champion, Pilar Jáuregui, took part in a meeting held by UNACEM to recognize and celebrate the effort and tenacity that led her to win the championship and gold medal in the Parabadminton World Championship 2022, after winning in the final of the WH2 category, held in Tokyo, Japan.

At the recognition ceremony, the Peruvian athlete emphasized that what drives her to pursue new challenges is the love of sport and that she feels committed to continue inspiring more children, young people and adults to take up sports, regardless of any difficulty, as she has been doing as part of Team UNACEM.

During the event, which was also attended by Claudia Rivero, UNACEM’s head of marketing and former Olympic badminton player, and Gabriel Barrio, UNACEM’s assistant marketing manager, Pilar received a symbolic gift from UNACEM in recognition of the commitment and discipline that have led her to win gold in many badminton competitions this year.

“At UNACEM we are proud to support Peruvian athletes who, like Pilar Jáuregui, are willing to challenge themselves constantly, and excel thanks to their effort and perseverance. Outstanding achievements such as this recent one motivate us to continue our commitment to promoting sports and helping our country’s athletes, who also become dedicated and admired models for children and young people”, commented Gabriel Barrio.

Claudia Rivero expressed her pride as a Peruvian, an athlete and a member of UNACEM at the new triumph obtained by Pilar Jáuregui. “The dedication and extra miles that Pilar puts into achieving everything she sets out to do is an inspiration for all Peruvians, but especially for those of us who have practiced or who practice a sport professionally. From UNACEM, it is an honor to have athletes of his stature, as well as Kevin, Kimberly, Rodrigo and Mafer”, commented UNACEM’s head of Marketing and former Olympic badminton player.

Pilar Jáuregui’s achievements in her sports career include a gold medal in the Parapan American Games (2019) and being the only South American parabadminton player who classified for the Tokyo 2020 Paralympic Games. It should be noted that during 2022 she has won 3 gold medals at the Brazil Para Badminton International, where she also reached second position in her category (WH2) in the Badminton World Ranking.

In the coming weeks Pilar will prepare to take part in the Pan American Parabadminton Championship in Colombia, to be held from November 21 to 27, and in the South American Para Badminton Championship, from December 4 to 7, in Lima. Looking ahead to next year, the parabadminton player aspires to once again bring laurels to Peru in the Parapan American Games Santiago 2023.
