Renews for the third consecutive year
UNACEM received the “Blue Certificate” awarded by ANA for promoting sustainable use of water resources
Lima, December 2022.- For the third consecutive time, the National Water Authority (ANA) renewed the “Blue Certificate” awarded to UNACEM, Peru’s leading cement company, for maintaining its commitment to responsible water management, as well as implementing shared value projects with the communities surrounding its two plants: Atocongo, in Villa María del Triunfo – Lima and Condorcocha, in Tarma – Junín.
This represents recognition, in terms of sustainability, for the company’s strategic efforts to ensure the efficient use of resources and offer products and services that promote safe, responsible and resilient development of the country’s infrastructure and sustainable development.
To obtain this recognition, UNACEM established a water footprint reduction plan that recognizes policies, objectives and best practices for continuing the responsible use of water in different processes. To this end the company monitors its operations continually, having invested more than 1.4 million soles in reduction projects and value sharing between the two plants. To date it has benefited more than 4,000 people and achieved an average annual reduction of more than 50,000 m3 of water.
Priority has also been given to training employees at the Atocongo and Condorcocha plants to raise awareness of the importance of reducing the water footprint.
In this regard, the Safety, Environment and Sustainability Manager of UNACEM Peru, Carlos Adrianzén, commented that “The renewal of the Blue Certificate is recognition of the Unacem team’s efficient and responsible water management at both plants: Atocongo and Condorcocha. We have implemented social projects to benefit the communities near our operations, and employ good practices for the operation and maintenance of drinking water systems and cleaning of irrigation canals”.
It is worth noting that UNACEM was the first cement company to obtain the Blue Certificate in 2018, and that it has been renewed continuously ever since. It has been making new efforts in sustainable use, conservation and protection of the quantity and quality of water used.
